Chicago-based startup Rivet News Radio, the mobile app designed to deliver personalized local, national and world news along with traffic and weather to smartphone users, just added content from the Sun-Times to its playlist.

The agreement between the Sun-Times and Rivet News Radio’s parent company, HearHere Radio Inc., marks the latest content partnership for the fledgling news service. Other contributors include Chicago Public Media WBEZ FM 91.5 (featuring Jerome McDonnell’s “Worldview”), Crain’s Chicago Business and the Associated Press.

“We’re excited to connect our news stories with the future of content-delivery in mobile,” Sun-Times publisher and editor-in-chief Jim Kirk said in a statement. “This partnership allows the Sun-Times to meet the demands of our listeners by staying ahead of the technology curve and giving them a brand new way to get their news, on their time.”

The Rivet News Radio app is available free for the iPhone.

News of the Sun-Times content agreement comes just days after HearHere Radio won a Peter Lisagor Award for Best Online Start-Up. It was one of two Lisagors for Rivet News Radio in its first year from the Chicago Headline Club.

“It’s an honor to be recognized for our journalism at such an early stage,” HearHere Radio CEO John MacLeod said in a statement. “Our team’s been working extremely hard to bring journalistic excellence to smartphone listeners and it’s great to see them honored by the Headline Club.”
