Better Government Association CEO Andy Shaw sits with Rivet News Radio to discuss civic reform in Chicago
Charlie Meyerson goes in-depth with BGA Chief in latest installment of Rivet’s Panorama series
CHICAGO – A transparent, effective and ethical government is what the Better Government Association (BGA) has fought for since the 1920s in Chicago. Since his joining the BGA in 2009, Andy Shaw has led more than 80 of the organization’s 280 pending investigations.
“I know what good government and bad government looks like…[This job is] a good opportunity to use my skills and to try to recreate a vibrant, effective watchdog organization,” said Shaw, a long-time Chicago journalist, who sat down with Charlie Meyerson for Panorama, one of Rivet News Radio’s signature programs.
Shaw held up the BGA’s “Rescuing Illinois Project” as a shining example of the association’s impact. In 2012, the BGA uncovered $265 million in taxpayer-funded payouts to retired public school employees for unused sick and vacation days.
